ITV goes off air for first time in 30 years as fire alarm prompts evacuation during Lorraine Kelly’s breakfast show

Lorraine Kelly’s ITV breakfast show was forced to go off air on Monday morning due to a fire alarm.

For the first time in 30 years, ITV was forced to go off air on Monday morning after a fire alarm interrupted the live broadcast of Lorraine Kelly’s ITV breakfast show. The daytime host kept her composure and refused to stop hosting her show – despite ITV’s London Studios being evacuated. 

 

She coolly told viewers: “According to that the building is being evacuated. I’ll find out what happens. In the meantime, we’ll keep going.”

 

Later, she apologised to views saying: “Sorry about this.”

 

“People are running around trying to find out what happened. In the meantime, shall we carry on?”

 

“They’re telling me now we have to evacuate. It’s live television, anything can happen. I guess we’ll go into an ad break.”

 

The channel then cut to a screen showing ITV logo while an announcer said: “We’re having issues at Lorraine studios.” 

 

An ITV spokesperson told Mirror TV: "Yes, an alarm was raised within ITV this morning and the area was immediately evacuated. Once it had been investigated and deemed safe, people were able to re-enter the building."
