The first Monday of February is expected to be marked with the highest number of people calling in sick, it has been predicted.
The main reasons for this professional truancy include hangovers and broken down vehicles. Some may let their boss know they’re not coming in due to season fatigue, weather, or because they were too tired after spending a big weekend with their families.
According to a recent survey, 38per cent of workers said that they’d be tempted to take the day off due to the weather.
Others may skip the office because they’re not feeling well – snivels, coughs, and seasonal fatigue while some are just hang over. Other reasons include “just needing a lie in” and generally feeling overworked or stressed.
Sally Jesson from The Fine Bedding Company, which conducted the survey said: "Post-Christmas blues, seasonal ailments, the wintry weather, financial woes and a long wait for the next holiday are all top reasons for the UK's lack of motivation to turn into work.
"Maybe our duvets are just too comfy that we want to stay in bed for longer."
