A lot of homeowners have home insurance policies. This is a type of insurance that offers protection against theft, flood, fire, etc. If you pay for this policy, it’s important that you know the process when you’re making a claim.
If you think that it’s as easy as going to your insurance company and asking for money, you better think again unfortunately!
Here’s a simple guide to help you out:
- First thing that you need to do is to make an inventory. You need to have a list of all your valuables. This will help you make the process of filing a claim a lot easier.
In case of fire or flood, you can easily present your list to your insurance company. Make the list as detailed as possible. Include the brand name, price, and other important descriptions. Also, keep photos and receipts.
- When filing a claim, it’s important that you provide your insurance company everything they’re going to need to process your claim. This includes the list above (your policy) and a form that you’ve already filled in.
- Next step is to wait. Keep in mind that claims are usually processed within 2 to 4 weeks. Usually, the insurance company will send a representative to your home to see the damage and to decide if your claim is legit.
If everything goes well, you should receive the compensation after a couple of days.
