A massive swarm of bees has covered a traffic bollard, sending passersby running for cover. The concrete post in Southampton somehow attracted around 7,000 bees, resembling a “policeman’s helmet.”
With pedestrians running for cover following warnings from a nearby bar, Dave Norris, from the Southampton and District Beekeepers Association, managed to lure the queen and luckily, the swarm followed.
Dave told the BBC: "I have no idea what attracted them to the bollard - if I could tell you why they choose certain places I would be a very rich man.
"They like dark places so the box lures them in and they tend to follow the queen."
The nearby Orange Rooms bar noticed the incident.
Staff member Chloe Adams said: "They just appeared - a big ball of bees. People passing had to do a double take while others ran away."
