Hollywood golden era icon Lauren Bacall dies after 'massive stroke'

Lauren Bacall, one of the last movie icons of Hollywood’s golden age, has died at the age of 89.

One of Hollywood's most defining golden era icons, Lauren Bacall, has passed away after suffering from massive stroke. The Big Sleep star was 89 years old.

 

One of her family members has confirmed the sad news to gossip site TMZ and revealed that the actress died on Tuesday morning at her Manhattan home. 

 

Bacall, whose career spanned six decades, is renowned for her sultry look and distinctively husky voice. She is best known for her roles in films like Designing Woman, Key Largo, and The Mirror Has Two Faces, for which she earned her sole Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. 

 

Following the news of Bacall’s passing, fans flocked her Hollywood Walk of Fame star in Los Angeles to leave the former wife of late screen legend Humphrey Bogart flowers and teddy bears. Many also paid tribute to her via social media networks. 

 

The actress, who is survived by three grown children from her two marriages, died in her apartment in The Dakota building on the Upper West side, best known as the former home of John Lennon. 

 

Just recently, the actress was busy with voice-over work, including in the popular cartoon TV show Family Guy and the animated feature Ernest and Celestine.
