Justin Hawkins is set to release a solo album.
The Darkness frontman has recorded a collection of songs at his London home and says the tracks are a lot "more mellow" than his band's debut 'Permission to Land'.
He said: "It's a lot less rock than the band stuff. I'd written most of it in demo form before The Darkness took off but I've only finished it properly recently."
The flamboyant star - who has tentatively titled the album 'British Wail' - is reported to have the blessing of his fellow bandmates and will draft in brother Dan Hawkins to play the material live.
Hawkins is quoted by Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying: "I guess Dan will have to be the guitarist. He likes the stuff. But it will be completely different from what people expect."
Earlier this year, Justin revealed the band were having trouble recording their second album saying it would not be released until September.
