Oscar-nominated star Michael Clarke Duncan, popular for the film ‘The Green Mile’, has died after suffering from a severe heart attack in July and undergoing two months of treatment.
Publicist Joy Fehily shared the sad news on behalf of Duncan’s partner, who was referred to for the first time as the actor’s fiancée.
The statement said that the actor died on Monday morning 3rd September at a hospital in Los Angeles. The death was attributed to a myocardial infarction that the actor suffered on July 13thand ‘never fully recovered’ from.
Duncan’s partner, Rev. Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, also spoke to ‘Radar’, saying: “I am devastated. He was the love of my life.”
According to some news reports, Duncan’s death was very sudden, even saying that Omarosa had been in the hospital room but that she left momentarily and when she returned, the actor had already died.
A US website also reported that “public and private memorials” are now being planned.
Tom Hanks, Duncan’s co-star in ‘The Green Mile’, released a saddened message calling Duncan by his nickname “Big Mike”.
“I am terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike. He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of The Green Mile. He was magic,” he said, as reported by the Mail Online.
“He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned.”
Director Frank Darabont was equally “devastated” and described Duncan as “one of the finest people” he’s ever known or worked with.
“Michael was the gentlest of souls – an exemplar of decency, integrity, and kindness,” he told the Mail Online
“The sadness I feel is inexpressible.”
Aside from ‘The Green Mile’, Duncan starred in dozens of films including ‘Armaggedon’, ‘The Planet of the Apes’, and ‘Kung Fu Panda’.
At 6 feet 5 inches, the 300-pound star was certainly hard to miss on the big screen and is expected to leave a gaping hole in show business.
