• Know what you really want. Before you retire, you need to realize the things that you really want to do once you hit your golden years. Do you want to spend the rest of your life on the beach and watching beautiful sunsets? Do you want to travel the world with your partner? Or do you want to pursue other dreams like writing a book? If you know what you really want from the get-go, you won’t have to waste money on things that don’t really mean so much to you.

 

• Never live beyond your means. You can stop buying things that you don’t really need and still be happy. If you stick with those things that are considered as “needs” you’ll get by and you’ll have more money to spend once you hit retirement.

 

• Stay busy and make money. You can still make money once you hit retirement by doing the things that you love. Take the time to assess your skills and determine how you can convert them to money.
