When your hard disk crashes, it is a pain staking affair trying to recover the lost data. However, all that could change if the newest technology is anything to go by. Scientists have unveiled a novel way of storing data in your hard drive. The contemporary hard drive design is such that it consists of a thin film of magnetic strip on which data is written.
The storage capacity of the data is subject to the thickness of the strip. A lot of people concur that current designs have a lot of hurdles. A hard disk is vulnerable to just about a shift in impact that could result in the entire structure unravelling leading to the hard disk crashing.
However, scientists have discovered skyrmions which are basically knot like atoms that are more stable, less likely to overheat and yield a lot of space than your average iron film in the hard disk. Scientist from the University of Hamburg have actually discovered that skyrmions can be created and that they require lower temperatures in order to be formed which cannot be found in hard disks.
Studies are going on in order to find a way scientists can use them effectively in hard drives.
