Giant search engine Google is celebrating Earth Day 2013on Monday, 22nd April, through its interactive home page. Here, internet users can click on the image and watch as seasons on planet earth unfold.
At times during the animation the day turns to night, and web browsers can control the action using a play and pause button on the page – which is incorporated in the image.
The aim of Earth Day is to raise awareness about the environment, and this is something that is noted worldwide.
It is celebrated each year. The first of its kind was over 50 years ago in the US. Senator Gaylord Nelson helped form the idea following an incident in America.
It is known that trees are often planted on Earth Day.
Google’s doodles have also included the likes of; Nicolaus Copernicus' 540th birthday anniversary, and prior to this, 200 years of Brothers Grimm’s Fairy Tales (through Red Riding Hood), as well as many others.
