Gervais's Hollywood debut

Ricky Gervais is set to make his Hollywood debut.

The 'Extras' funnyman will star in upcoming movie 'For Your Consideration', which is a spoof on the Oscars and other awards ceremonies.

The film also features 'American Pie' star Eugene Levy, 'Beetlejuice' actress Catherine O'Hara and Harry Shearer, who voices Mr Burns in 'The Simpsons', and will be directed by 'This Is Spinal Tap' creator Christopher Guest.

According to Hollywood bible Daily Variety, the movie is set to hit cinema screens at the end of next year.

This will be Ricky's first Hollywood film role, although he has previously made an impression on US audiences as a villain in hit TV show 'Alias'.

The comedian is also hoping for Stateside success with his new show, 'Extras', which features cameo appearances from a host of American stars, including Ben Stiller and Samuel L. Jackson.
