While her acting in ‘The Godfather Part III’ drew widespread criticism (especially because it was her father, the iconic Francis Ford Coppola who directed it), Sofia Coppola has come into her own as a filmmaker. Undoubtedly, her most revered work is the Bill Murray/Scarlett Johansson mid-life crisis dramedy ‘Lost in Translation’.
Its epic critical and commercial success made her become the first American woman to be nominated for a Best Director Oscar, and went on to win the Best Original Screenplay at the ceremony. Coppola also directed ‘Marie Antoinette’ with Kirsten Dunst tackling the glossy title role and the cult drama ‘The Virgin Suicides’.
