Billy Costigan, a scrawny Irish American street kid turned stubbled secret agent, is sent to infiltrate the gang of notorious Boston mob boss, Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson).

His commitment to the cause brings him a quick stint inside, a few street brawls, a broken hand and a mental breakdown. All in a day's work for a man truly committed to the cause.
