The warm words and melodic tune have pushed Lonestar's love song to the top. Ironically, although the American band was popular on US soil, they only reached NO 21 in the UK charts. Yet it has remained a firm favourite since its debut in 1999.
According to the research by PRS music, the first dance is deemed so important, that 53% of females and 55% of male voted it as more so than the best man's speech.
Chairman of PRS, Ellis Rich, said: "The song played for the first dance tends to make weddings more memorable and can inevitably prove to be the icing on cake. It is a testament to the power and universality of music that those 'special moments' and feelings can be heightened by the melodies which mean the most to us."
