It was the men of the Lady Margaret Boat Club in Cambridge in the 1870s who first popularised the blazer. Since then the style icons from Charlotte Rampling to Marlene Dietrich and also designers such as Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger have made the blazer synonymous with laid-back chic.
