E.T. (1982, Atari 2600)
This game is cited as being a major cause of the video game crash of 1983. On the back of the film's success Atari produced five million copies of the game in the run up to Christmas. However, the game was a disaster, with poor controls and shoddy gameplay and most copies went unsold. The company buried the millions of unsold cartridges in a landfill site in New Mexico.
