New research has also uncovered the reason why we love the smell of chips - it's because of the combined scent of butterscotch, onion, cocoa, ironing boards and cheese!
Increased cooking times result in a variety of pleasant aromas which is why scientists at Leeds University believe we love the smell of chips so much. The study was commissioned for the Potato Council.
