As part of its exploration into the power of the internet, the BBC has collected figures from web watchdog Nielsen to create a list of the 100 biggest sites on the worldwide web.

This treemap shows that the biggest portion of the net is, perhaps unsurprisingly, used for search engines or portals, followed closely by media and news sources.
