The BBC have never been afraid to dupe their audience and the year of 1965 was no exception when their aired an interview with a professor who had just invented 'smellovision' which allowed viewers at home to experience the aromas of the television studio with no modification of their TV sets. The professor 'proved' it by brewing fresh coffee and slicing onions in the studio. A good number of let's say imaginative viewers called in to confirm that it worked!
