Taken from Nirvana's 'Unplugged in New York' album, Kurt Cobain changed the feel of the David Bowie hit by stripping down the hard electric guitars to a melodic acoustic version. It showed the world that the band was much more versatile than people had initially given them credit for.

Following this cover, Bowie was haunted by its existence and after performing it himself, told of how he would encounter, "Kids come up afterwards and say, 'It's cool you're doing a Nirvana song.'" He would apparently think unmentionables about them for believing the track wasn't his.
