Lemmings have a bad reputation as being easily led suicidal idiots, who kill themselves off to keep their population levels down.  Strangely enough it was a Disney documentary, ‘White WildernessÂ’ (1958), which populated this myth after a mass migration scene ended in apparent suicide.

However, it has since been revealed that that particular type of lemming would not mass migrate (never mind punch their own tickets) and that the lemmings on film were actually pushed into their watery deaths by a turntable platform operated by the film crew. However, the popular video game ‘LemmingsÂ’ went on to cement the creaturesÂ’ ill-fated reputation.
