Hollywood acting legend Paul Newman was one of the first to branch out with a self-made culinary range. What started as a joke between him and his friends saw him heading an empire called Newman's Own whose products even make up McDonald's recipes.
The multiple Oscar winner sold his first salad dressing in 1982 and now produces a variety of sauces and other edible goods - raising more than $200m (£100m) for charity in the process. He's also recently branched out into wine. The self-parodying slogan is "Shameless exploitation in the pursuit of common good."
