While he was playing the suave Remington Steele in the 1980s, Brosnan was seen as a natural for the role of James Bond. But he couldn't get out of his Remington Steele contract so Timothy Dalton got the gig.

Brosnan made light of the situation by appearing in Diet Coke ads that spoofed Bond in the late 1980s.
