Eagerly anticipated by the nation and a hugely publicised event in itself, London will host the Summer Olympic Games in 2012.

London will become the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times, the times before being in 1908 and 1948.

Preparations are well under-way, with the bid prompting the redevelopment of many areas of the capital.

The Games are scheduled to take place from 27 July to 12 August 2012.
