Released: 1984
Originally created for the BBC's Microcomputer and Acorn Electron, and having now celebrated its quarter of a century anniversary, 'Elite' was almost limitless in its potential.
Set in space, you flew around a fictional universe trading in slaves, narcotics and minerals, while rival pirate ships threatened to hijack your cargo and police endeavoured themselves to be hot on your tail.
Its open ended gameplay and (then) revolutionary 3D graphics paved the way for titles such as 'Wing Commander' and even 'Grand Theft Auto'.
'Elite 4' is in development for modern consoles and computers, but let's not get too currentÂ… check out the timeless titles that still feel great today!
