This was the scene when a giant spider attempted to thwart the space-shuttle Atlantis' launch as viewed from NASA's very own online webcam.

Viewers watched on in horror as the ship was eaten before launch, but order was restored when NASA officials pointed out that it was a regular spider crawling on the camera lens not the first stage of a giant arachnid invasion.
