A team of archaeologists have uncovered ancient Egyptian tombs dating back to 2000 BC, which could shed new light on ancient Egyptian religious practices.
Most of the 57 tombs dug up at Lahoun, 70 miles south of Cairo, contain mummies dating back well in to the 18th dynasty. The corpses are covered in painted linen and decorated with religious texts from the Book of the Dead.
However, in a significant find, the oldest of the tombs dates back to 2750 BC - the reign of Egypt's first and second dynasties. Some tombs are almost completely intact.
