It was the main town in the county of Trumptonshire. It had a town hall, with a clock tower, numerous shops and a fine market square in the middle of which stood a statue of Queen Victoria.

The series was narrated by Brian Cant who often spoke directly to the characters.

Despite the show's concentration on the fire brigade, there appears only to have ever been one fire in Trumpton, at the bakers. Other stories centred around rescuing cats from trees or retrieving the mayor's hat which had blown off in a gust of wind.
