The plot: Harlem, the 1970s, and the crime boss Frank Lucas (Washington) is making $1 million a day from drug dealing and smuggling heroin into the US in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam. Lucas, however, has one problem - a dogged narcotics detective (Crowe), who plans to bring down his empire.

Believe the hype? Crowe and Washington together is a Hollywood dream ticket. Crowe has recently kept his head down and out of pub brawls after his last collaboration with director Ridley Scott, the romantic flop 'A Good Year', but this has both men back in the firmer audience-pleasing territory of macho histrionics.
