Chimney sweeps
In the mid-50s, chimney sweeps were considered so lucky that it was said they could make more money attending weddings than working. On his wedding day, in 1947, Prince Philip shook hands with a sweep to bring good luck for his marriage to the then Princess Elizabeth. It was said that the superstition first arose after a chimney sweep once risked his life to stop a runaway horse belonging to one of the King Georges.
