The time-travelling car from 'Back To The Future' has been voted the best movie motor of all time.

The 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 - driven by Marty McFly, actor Michael J Fox - beat a host of famous film cars to top the poll, conducted by website car.com.

The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT raced by Matthew Broderick in cult teen movie 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' came a close second.

Other Hollywood vehicles to make the top ten, included the latest Batmobile from 'Batman Begins' and James Bond's iconic 1964 Aston Martin - which featured in 'Goldfinger'.

A spokesman for car.com said: "The DeLorean achieves time travel at 88 mph, thanks to a lithium-powered nuclear reactor and onboard flux capacitor.

"By the end of the first movie, it runs solely on trash and it flies. That's futuristic two decades after the movie debuted."

Surprisingly, the original Mini Cooper that took part in the classic chase sequence from Michael Cain's 1969 film 'The Italian Job', lost out to the modern version from the 2003 remake, which starred Mark Wahlberg.
