As Operation Yewtree continues to examine the sex abuse allegations against Jimmy Savile, Freddie Starr was the next celebrity to be questioned by police. The comedian was taken in by officials onWednesday before being released on bail.
Starr, aged 69, has reportedly denied claims that he molested a 14-year-old girl in the 1970s when he was in Savile’s company. It is unknown when he will go before police for further questioning.
A spokesman from Scotland Yard has said: “Officers working on Operation Yewtree have arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.
“The man, from Warwickshire, was arrested at approximately 5.45pm on suspicion of sexual offences, and has been taken into police custody locally.
“The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed 'Savile and others'.”
This news comes after the recent arrest of music artist Gary Glitter in connection to the Savile investigations. Glitter was released on bail until December.
It is understood that Savile's £4.3million estate was frozen this week in wake of the accusations being made against him. The former BBC presenter, who died 12 month ago, is being linked to an alleged 300 sex abuse cases that span over 40 years.
