A blog entitled “I Died Today by Duke Roberts” showed touching details of a dog’s final hours as he dies from cancer. The post features the final experiences of a black Labrador living in Houston, Texas.
Duke was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his leg years ago. His owners had his leg removed but the cancer spread to his body, separating his ribs in the process. The day he was put to sleep, photographer Robyn Arouty, took several pictures detailing his final hours.
Each picture posted on the blog contains simple captions from the dog’s point of view, talking about the love he felt from his owners.
In the final, heartbreaking shot, the dog is seen with his owner being injected. The author wrote: "I felt no pain. Even though the tumor grew so big".
"Our time was short. But you both gave me a second chance and we lived it up together. You love when I look at you. I’ll never stop."
Discussing her work, Robyn says on her website: "Duke’s story has forever changed my life.
"Simply put, I wasn’t afraid to photograph between the lines of life and his bittersweet goodbye.
"The last day of his adventure here forced us into areas that aren’t comfortable, but they’re necessary.
"Life is a lot like that, until something comes along and rescues you."
