Farrell's fond farewell to grandfather

Colin Farrell paid an emotional farewell to his grandfather in a moving poem at his funeral on Monday (16.05.05).

The 'S.W.A.T.' star, renowned for his wild partying, showed his softer side as he joined his family at a Dublin church to pay tribute to grandfather Jimmy Monaghan.

Farrell, 29, described "Gentleman Jim" - who died aged 89 last Thursday after a long illness - as "the truest father and the greatest man".

During a moving eulogy delivered to over 100 mourners gathered at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church he said: "Grandad was the original family man.

"He would never curse, so it's fitting I should be standing in front of you today."

Colin then went on to read out a poignant poem he had penned for his grandfather.

The 'Alexander' star, currently shooting a movie adaptation of hit TV series, 'Miami Vice', jetted in from Hollywood especially for the service.

Colin, who was also a pall bearer at the memorial mass, spoke fondly about his grandfather after the birth of his 18-month old son, with former girlfriend, model Kim Bordenave.

He joked at the time: "I took my son, James, to meet him when he was nine weeks old and my grandad said, 'She's a lovely girl.'"
