Facebook has rolled out a Graph Search feature on Monday that allows users to conduct advanced searches using various filters.
Supposedly the feature has already been in Facebook’s system for the last six months and users could voluntarily add it to their account. However, after users provided great feedback, Facebook decided to release the feature to US profiles.
On Monday, Facebook explained the search tool’s purpose on its blog. The blog post read: “Graph Search results are personalized and unique for everyone, based on what has been shared with them.
“For example, if you search for ‘Photos of San Francisco,’ you’ll see photos your friends took there and shared with you, as well as Public photos.
“This means if someone else does the same search, they’re going to see different results because they have different friends, and different photos have been shared with them.”
Facebook have always denied that the new features would be a rival to Google. CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained: “Web search is designed to take any open-ended query and give you links that might have answers. Graph Search is designed to take a precise query and give you an answer, rather than links that might provide an answer.”
