EU: At least 100 Tories opted for vote amendment

Reportedly 114 Tories opted for EU vote amendment

There were 114 Tory MPs, according to reports, who opted to regret the absence of an in-out referendum bill. This comes following the Queen’s Speech 2013, which was delivered last week.

 

Certain politicians had hoped the EU referendum bill would be part of the coalition’s new legislation plans.

 

The amendment was defeated, and this was by 227 votes to 130, as of time of writing.

 

This comes after the topic of having an in/out vote on the UK’s EU membership has been in the spotlight recently.

 

Deputy PM Nick Clegg has said, as reported by The Guardian: “Legislation is already in place and the people of Britain have a guarantee about when a referendum will take place.”

 

Prime Minister David Cameron, who has recently been in the US, wants to move sovereignty from Brussels to Britain.

 

He has commented that a ‘reform’, ‘renegotiation’ and a referendum before 2018 begins is the right move for the UK, as reported by The Guardian.
