Diagnosed with both throat and lung cancer in the early 2000’s, Emmanuelle star Sylvia Kristel has died at the age of 60. It has been disclosed that she passed away in her sleep, her agent said. The actress was admitted to hospital in July this year following a stroke.
Sylvia Kristel is best known for her role in the erotic movie Emmanuelle which spawned numerous sequels. She played the role of a sexually promiscuous housewife who followed her diplomat husband to Asia to fill her time with romantic trysts.
Kristel, who was perceived by many as a natural beauty, was crowned Miss TV Holland and Miss TV Europe before pursuing active career.
Having appeared nude in the film Because of the Cats, auditioning for the lead role in Emmanuelle was presumably easy for her,.
Talking about her audition to The Evening Standard in 1994, she said it was easy for her to convince the director to cast her.
She said, as reported by the BBC: “He asked me to take my dress off,” and added, “Luckily it was an easy dress to take off.”
In the same report by the BBC it is said that Kristel was chosen because she “was not inhibited” and “very graceful”.
Kristel is survived by her partner Peter Brul and her son with Claus, Arthur Kristel.
