England has proven the odds makers wrong so far after outlasting New Zealand to tie the series on a spectacular day five of the third and final Test in Auckland. England’s endurance kept New Zealand from getting the six wickets necessary to claim their first win over England since 1999.
Although favoured to defeat New Zealand, England had played poorly and was on the verge of being dropped to third place behind India and South Africa in the Test standings. They were able to avoid that fate with their strong comeback on day five. The two teams will be again with England heavily favoured to defeat New Zealand.
Although some believe that Test cricket has no or very little future, this was one of those matches that cause naysayers to take a second look. With so much money in invested in the Indian league, it is expected that many of the best players have and will continue to migrate to where the money is.
But there are the true diehards who believe that the traditional form of the game continues to define itself as the proving ground for the best players.
So for those who plan to wager a bet England is the team to go with. Despite their struggles early, they proved that they are the superior team and should show better in the next test match in April.
The weather will potentially play an important role in the upcoming Test as rain is expected on that Saturday and Sunday. If the rain falls it will indeed favour England as they have proven the better in such conditions.
