Elton cleans out closet

Sir Elton John is selling thousands of his flamboyant outfits to help AIDS victims.

The flamboyant star, 59, is getting rid of 10,000 designer cast-offs in a New York shop which has been renamed 'Elton's Closet' for the occasion.

The sale in Manhattan's Rockefeller Centre includes suits, shoes, and glitzy accessories worn by the 'Rocket Man' and partner David Furnish, 43.

Prices start at just £8.60 for one of Sir Elton's T-shirts and there is even a polka-dot designer suit he wore to perform with Eminem at the 2001 Grammy Awards.

Among the big name designers featuring in Elton's charity sale are Versace, Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton.

The money will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which has raised more than £51 million since 1992.

Sir Elton, whose hits include 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' and 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight', said: "David and I had great fun collecting and wearing these extraordinary clothes. But it's even more satisfying to see them help raise money for the Foundation."
