Doctor Who actor, Matt Smith, has split up with his Brazilian girlfriend, according to reports.

Smith had been maintaining a long distance relationship with singer Mayana Moura between Rio De Janeiro and New York for a year.

However, intense filming for the new series of Doctor Who proved to be too much of a strain on the couple.

A source told The Sun: "Matt and Mayana adore each other, but the timing was not right and the relationship just ran its course.

"Matt has been up in Cardiff for the past few weeks filming and he will be in Wales for the next four months on a very gruelling shoot. This job means the world to him."

The new series of Doctor Who is due to hit the BBC next year. Smith takes over from David Tennant and will become the 11th Time Lord.
