Doctor Who? Peter Capaldi snubbed from National Television Awards shortlist
Despite prior predictions of his win, Peter Capaldi did not make it to the shortlist for top drama performance at the National Television Awards.

The National Television Awards have snubbed acclaimed Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, who was not nominated for top drama performance category despite the show’s history and the predictions prior to the nomination list’s release.
This is the first time that the star of the show was not included in the shortlist since the sci-fi show was revived by the BBC.
His predecessors Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith, have won for their role in the annual event.
Meanwhile, Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch as well as Happy Valley’s Sarah Lancashire made it to the list.
Sheridan Smith, who received an OBE in the New Year honours list, is lining up against namesake Dame Maggie.
Doctor Who, on the other hand, competes against Sherlock, Downton, and Cilla for the best drama award. X Factor panelists Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will go head to head as best talent judge. Completing the list are Britain’s Got Talent David Williams and Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry.
Actresses who are up for the best serial drama award are Danny Dyer, Kellie Bright, Emmerdale’s Verity Rushworth (who plays Donna Windsor-Dingle) and Nikki Sanderson, who plays Maxine Minniver in Hollyoaks.
