Stephen Fry has confirmed that he is set to marry his 27-year-old partner following a whirlwind romance.
The 57-year-old actor and writer said that he is “very, very happy” and is understood to have started his relationship with Elliott Spencer over the summer. They were first photographed together in November. They registered to marry in Norfolk just before Christmas.
He tweeted today: 'Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I'm very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!.
'Thank you all SO much for your kind congratulations. Deeply touched xxx'.
A spokesperson for the star added to MailOnline: 'Stephen Fry is very happy and proud to say that he has set the wheels in motion for a wedding sometime in the future but no date has been set due to a busy work schedule.
'With thanks for the interest, but he has no further comments to make at the moment.'
Mr Fry, who suffers from bipolar disorder, revealed in 2012 that he tried to kill himself as he struggled to cope with fame, loneliness, and the break-up of his previous relationship.
Meanwhile, Mr Spencer’s father Robert, who is also 57 years old, said that he and his wife are “over the moon.”
'We are obviously very happy. We are over the moon, that is all I want to say.'
