Legendary Hollywood film star Dennis Hopper has reportedly told his friends and family that he is ready to die.

The National Enquirer stated that the film icon, 73, has accepted that his prostate cancer will end his life very soon.

Hopper, best known for his roles in 'Easy Rider' and 'Blue Velvet', was diagnosed with the disease in September 2009 and it has now spread to his bones.

Doctors are "no longer able to contain the disease, and his condition had severely worsened," the source added.

Hopper recently finished filming for his TV show, 'Crash' which is based on the Oscar winning film of the same name, and is now saying goodbye to his loved ones, claims the publication.

Over the course of his career, Hopper has amassed two Oscar nominations. The first came for writing the 1969 road movie 'Easy Rider', which he also directed. The film was hugely influential, signalling a new wave of American independent cinema.

His second Oscar nomination came for his supporting role for 'Hoosiers' in 1986.

Hopper's first film role was alongside tragic icon James Dean in 1955's 'Rebel Without A Cause'.

It has previously been reported that since his cancer diagnosis, he has cancelled all future acting jobs.
