Lorraine Kelly is to take over the presenting of ITVÂ’s struggling breakfast TV show Daybreak.
The presenter, who is currently recovering from a horse riding accident has agreed to take over the morning sofa after ITV bosses agreed to her demands.
The Scottish presenter will front the show from 7am, with other presenters fronting from 6am, in the same way that DaybreakÂ’s predecessor GMTV worked.
ItÂ’s also been revealed that her as-of-yet unnamed co-host will leave the sofa at 8.30am each morning to allow Lorraine to recreate her current show and present the final hour alone.
ItÂ’s understood that ITV bosses are desperate for Lorraine to take over as her natural charm is a hit with morning viewers and they cannot afford another costly mistake like Christine Bleakley and Adrian Childs.
A source revealed: “Lorraine is a tried and tested favourite with viewers.
“Some will say that we're playing it rather safe by sticking with someone who is already a big daytime star for the channel.
“But the hope is that, in pairing her with a new male co-presenter, the whole offering will seem fresh and different and together they will draw in millions of extra viewers.”
The insider added to The Mirror: “The male presenter is crucial to this - we are keen to cast someone lesser known so he can 'grow' with the audience.”
BBC Breakfast sports reporter Chris Hollins, former Blue Peter host Gethin Jones, Five News presenter Matt Barbet and ITV News correspondent Keir Simmons are all in the running for the coveted job as LorraineÂ’s co-presenter.
