Twin Peaks, the cult classic crime series from director David Lynch, is coming back to mark its 25th anniversary.
A quarter of a century ago, the show made us rethink what a TV show could be. It mixed mystery, noir, thriller, black comedy and surrealist elements and won the top Golden Globe award for its first season. However, it was cancelled after just two seasons. A backstory film entitled Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me followed to mixed response.
But the show is officially being revived for 2016 on the Showtime network. David Lynch took to Twitter: "Dear Twitter friends... it is happening again."
Series lead star Kyle MacLachlan, while not exactly confirming his involvement, also stated on Twitter: "Better fire up that percolator and find my black suit :-) #Twinpeaks"
Later an official statement was released: 'The groundbreaking television phenomenon, Golden Globe and Peabody Award-winner Twin Peaks will return as a new limited series on Showtime in 2016.
"David Lynch and Mark Frost will write and produce all nine episodes of the limited series, and Lynch will direct every episode."
The show tracked the murder of Laura Palmer and the town's surrounding mystery and warped characters.
