Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz is expecting her first child with actor Javier Bardem.

According to reports, the 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' star is due to give birth early next year.

A source close to the actress revealed to celebrity website JustJared.com: "Penelope is about four months pregnant. She's really healthy now and will be a great mother."

In the past, Cruz has told of her desire to have children saying in a magazine interview: "I want to have babies one day but not right now. When I do it, I want to do it really well. I want it to be my best project in life".

The Oscar winning actress has been with fellow actor Bardem since 2007. The two have appeared in 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' and Spanish comedy 'Jamn, jamn' together.

Cruz's forthcoming film 'Broken Embraces' is set to be released in the UK on August 28.
