Sheryl Crow is battling breast cancer.
News of the singer's illness has been confirmed by her publicist, Dave Tomberlin, who announced the 44-year-old underwent successful surgery on Wednesday (22.02.06).
He said: "Her doctors think her prognosis is excellent."
Crow will now begin precautionary radiation treatment to destroy the remaining cancer cells and admits she is lucky the disease was detected early.
She said: "I am joining the more than 200,000 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
"I am inspired by the brave women who have faced this battle before me and grateful for the support of family and friends."
Crow has now postponed her North American tour, but hopes to re-schedule the dates.
The cancer news comes three weeks after the singer publicly announced her split from champion cyclist Lance Armstrong - who successfully battled testicular cancer.
The couple had been engaged for around four months and been dating on and off since 2003.
Armstrong, 34, was diagnosed with his cancer in 1996 and has now spoken out in support of his former love.
He said in a statement: "Once again I'm reminded of just how pervasive this illness is, as it has now touched someone I love deeply."
