Simon CowellÂ’s mother has confirmed that the music mogul is engaged.

84-year-old Julie Cowell confirmed that her son has indeed found “the one” referring to his relationship with make-up artist Mezghan Hussainy, 36.

Julie Cowell stated: “I'm delighted that he's finally settled down. I feel as a mother, and like all parents do, that when their sons get to a certain age, particularly 50, we want to see them settled with a good woman.”

In an interview with the Sun newspaper she continued: “I could never really see Simon being committed like he is now. I would never have imagined that he would get married."

She also added that she was speechless when Simon revealed his plans. She told The Daily Mirror: “I'm shocked. I was the first person he called to say he was getting engaged. He knew he had to tell mother first. I said, 'you're joking aren't you?' But no, he said he wasn't - and I'm looking forward to wearing a hat to the wedding.”

The music executive and TV personality has been dating Mezhgan for eight months, and recently declared she is “the one” for him and has stated his desire for "little Simons".

Rumours the pair were planning to wed began to spread after Mezhgan was spotted wearing a ring on her engagement finger.

The ring is believed to be a £250,000 band from upmarket jewellers Graff, which the music legend surprised her with during a Valentine's Day meal.
