Corrie's Kelly in festive mugging

'Coronation Street' fans are in for a shock when machinist Kelly Crabtree is viciously mugged at knifepoint during the Christmas season.

Viewers will also see stunning Kelly - who is played by 27-year-old Tupele Dorgu - threatened with rape in the terrifying hold up.

The incident starts when Kelly scoops thousands of pounds on a National Lottery scratchcard.

The thrilled beauty splashes out on a sumptuous meal for her and boyfriend Lloyd Mullaney, who is played by actor Craig Charles, and is spotted flashing her newly-won cash.

Kelly finds herself alone after dinner and, as she makes her way home, is attacked by a teenager in an alley.

Bosses hope it will warn women viewers to be alert and careful during the festive season.

A soap insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Some viewers will be shocked. But bosses hope it will serve as a warning to vulnerable women to take extra care when walking home alone.'
