John has had a lot on his conscience of late, with the deaths of three people hanging over him, so could he be set to end it all by leaping off the roof of the hospital?
It is being reported that Stape will be seen standing on top of the roof, with his daughter Hope in his arms and wife Fiz looking on in horror.
Wearing a doctor's coat, John, played by Graham Hawley, will look down at the ground as Fiz arrives with the police and her brother, Chesney.
She talks him into handing over the baby, but as she takes her, John jumps, leaving viewers wondering whether he will survive.
Hawley is set to leave the soap this year, so this could be his last major storyline on the Cobbles.
The Daily Star is reporting that Stape will decide to end it all, when an incident at the Underworld factory leads to fresh building work.
Guilty conscience
He fears that the remains of Colin Fishwick will be discovered and decides to commit suicide.
Colin collapsed and died after he found out that John had stolen his identity in order to keep on teaching.
John then hid his body under the floor at Underworld.
Former colleague, Charlotte, also found out about John's secret and tried to blackmail him, leading John to hit her over the head with a hammer on the night of the infamous tram crash.
Her life support machine was later switched off.
John was also involved in the death of Colin's mother, Joy, who suspected something was wrong, leading John to confess all.
Someone then knocked on the door and Stape covered the elderly woman's mouth, to stop her from crying out, causing her to have an angina attack and pass away.
The dramatic scenes are set to air this summer.
